- 1979 Trans Am -
This is the story of my 1979 Trans Am
The Beginning
In 2001 I decided it was time I bought my first car. I test drove a whole pile of different new cars, even looked at some used cars, but they were just so darned expensive. I really liked the Saab 93 - viggen but there was no way I could afford that. I drove a couple VW's, Civic, and a Grand Am, I really liked the Grand Am too. It finally hit me, I needed a car with a big bird on the hood. It was the only way to go. We looked around the ads and found a few, one 80's firebird, but no hood bird and a lot of rust. Finally we found what we were looking for. A guy from New Brighton was selling his '79 Trans Am. It looked to be in near perfect shape and was a pretty hot car as well. So I went for it. Talked him down 1000 bucks and drove the car home.
Right after we picked it up we drove it to
Hudson to show the folks. On the way back, it started pouring rain. Now
this car came equiped with street legal drag slicks in the rear. Wow was
it a tricky drive home. Naturally by the time we got to St. Louis Park it
had stopped raining. Here I am posing for my first photo with the car, looking
a bit frazzled to say the least, right after the rain hit.
So here I am with my gold '79 Trans Am. We
went to the farm that weekend and picked up some decent tires for it at
Eilers Performance Corner.
I hate to see the slicks go but you just couldn't drive with them. Next
we have a nice artistic girly photo of my car and some flowers.
